SCHOOL COUNSELOR OF THE YEAR AWARD
The Vermont School Counselor of the Year Award, also known in Vermont as The James F. Cawley Award named in honor of the first recipient, is presented in recognition of distinguished contributions to school counseling and acknowledge and honor those instrumental in bringing outstanding innovation's to the development of counseling in Vermont youth. Nominees must be a Vermont school counselor with six or more years of experience in the school counseling field.
RECOGNITION CRITERIA

This counselor demonstrates strong rapport with students, parents/guardians, and school personnel.

This counselor takes initiative for advocacy, collaboration, professional development, and leadership efforts.

This counselor promotes equity and access to opportunities for the populations they serve.

This counselor holds high moral and ethical standards in their personal & professional conduct.

This counselor supports the social/emotional development of their students.

This counselor supports the academic development of their students.
-
This counselor supports the career development of their students.

This counselor has made outstanding contributions to the school community and/or profession.
-
This counselor has practiced six or more years in the field of school counseling.

This counselor holds at least a Master’s Degree.

This counselor is a member of the VTSCA.
-
This counselor is working full time.
