The Vermont School Counselor Association (VTSCA) recognizes the best professionals in our field. Our four awards include School Counselor of the Year, Rising Star, Intern of the Year, and the Excellence in School Counseling Program Award.

SCHOOL COUNSELOR OF THE YEAR AWARD

The Vermont School Counselor of the Year award, also known in Vermont as The James F. Cawley Award named in honor of the first recipient, is presented in recognition of distinguished contributions to school counseling and acknowledge and honor those instrumental in bringing outstanding innovation's to the development of counseling in Vermont youth. Nominees must be a Vermont school counselor with six or more years of experience in the school counseling field.

RISING STAR AWARD

Formerly known as the New SCOY, the VTSCA Rising Star Award recognizes an individual who has entered the school counseling profession within the last five years. The award winner is a model for new counselors demonstrating the highest standards of professional competence, outstanding contributions to the school community and/or profession, and has demonstrated strong rapport with students, parents/guardians, and school personnel.

INTERN OF THE YEAR AWARD

New this year, the Intern of the Year Award will be presented to a school counseling intern currently completing their practicum in the 2024 - 2025 school year. Anyone at the internship site my nominate the intern for this award.

EXCELLENCE IN SCHOOL COUNSELING PROGRAM AWARD

The Vermont School Counselor Association (VTSCA) has introduced a new award called the VTSCA Excellence in School Counseling Program Award (ESCPA). This award is meant to honor a school counseling department which has created a comprehensive school counseling program. Anyone from the school community can nominate a deserving program. Nominators will need to give the contact details of all team members and explain why they think this program deserves to be nominated. Nominators should describe how the program's work has had a positive, measurable impact in the three domains of the VTSCA: Academic, Career, and Social/Emotional Development.

The Vermont School Counselor Association (VTSCA) expands the image and influence of professional school counselors through advocacy, leadership, collaboration and systemic change. VTSCA empowers professional school counselors with the knowledge, skills, linkages, and resources to promote student success in the school, the home, the community, and the world. VTSCA is the chartered state division of the American School Counselor Association.
